Even though this is quite a short animation, there are a lot of sound effects to think about! As this is my favourite part of the audio process, I usually start in a chronological order and make a rough draft, then I look over it again and find sounds which I have missed, then I repeat the process again.
Most of the sound effects were spot, therefore I did managed to find some off online sources such as Freesound and SoundDogs, including the BBC Sound Effects library. But, what I thoroughly enjoyed was the process of Foley!
These are the equipment for which I used for recording the Foley:
Sennheiser 416; Tascam DR-40
Here are some of the examples which I have done.
The Tools of Trade (including the dog bed in the corner, for safety precautions!)
For the armor I decided to experiment using various appliances around the house. I came across these various tools! I wanted to come up with a fresh armor sound to replicate the character’s movements, including its personality. Because of the light armor that he would be wearing (of course, he is represented in ancient times, not Medieval!) I did not want the armor to sound too heavy, hence I popped them in a bag and started shaking it towards the character on-screen! Picture shown below shows my (beloved) bag and tools used for when recording.
Yes, the American Flag did come in handy for arrows whooshes!
I decided that I wanted to create my own custom whooshes. Obviously, due to the last stages of production, I needed to grab what I could find which could replicate a similar sound! I decided to use a stick and keep whacking it through the air to create a “whooshing” effect.
